Out of the Blue Ideas is run by me, Deborah Fallas, and the business is based here in the Scottish Borders. As a child I was always cutting things up, sticking things together and generally making a mess! Nothing has changed! I am originally from Aberdeen but have been living in Galashiels, apart from a short break, for around 30 years. I first came here to study at the Scottish College of Textiles in the late eighties and after graduating, I worked in the clothing industry in a busy buying office for a national retailer.

In the late nineties, I started working for myself and after the birth of my daughter, I started focusing on childrenswear and my label "Out of the Blue Kidswear". In the early noughties I joined a craft co-operative The Crafters. As a member of this group for nearly 20 years, I made and sold personalised blankets, readymade blankets and accessories for babies and toddlers in their shop in Melrose. In the last couple of years, I also started making accessories for the grown ups too - earwarmers, neckwarmers and mitts all in the same high quality fleece I used for the childrens range. I have recently chosen to leave the Crafters, which I will miss a great deal but I now have lots of new exciting plans of 2022!

When I am not making blankets for babies to cuddle up in, I am painting. I love art and paint mostly landscapes and vibrant flower studies. I love colour and nature  and like my work to be bright and joyful to reflect that. I sell my work online and through galleries and events throughout Scotland and the Northumberland. To see my paintings, please check out www.deborahfallasart.co.uk My paintings make me happy and that's what I want it to do for other people too.
